Google may Tweet your Tweets!Tagged Under : facebook, Google, real-time, Social media, Twitter, YouTubePosted in Twitter by Sian |
With the ever increasing awareness and use of Social Media, Google now intends to deliver the most up-to-the-minute search results with its “real-time” service. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of search products and user experience says “I would say that real-time search is the natural evolution of universal search.”
Google will index sites such as Twitter and Facebook immediately and show the results on its main search page normally towards the bottom. Google’s real time results display the latest and most sought after links of online social media communities, for a certain keyword search.
One of the reasons this came about was because Twitter and Facebook have proved they are up to the minute on breaking news stories.
This is beneficial to any small business that uses social media to communicate with its clients.
But how many people in Ireland write a blog about their company, use Twitter and Facebook for business or even YouTube for corporate videos? Stats vary depending where and who you ask. I’m positive it has more than doubled in the last year though. I used to think myself pretty computer savvy having been online for business for over 15 years. And I only started on Twitter 15 months ago and realised Facebook was for more than just chatting to friends and family a year ago.
Since writing some of my blogs about Twitter I have heard great stories though from people who thought it was rubbish before but now realise the power Social Media actually has in this day and age. And these guys are builders, car servicers and locksmiths, the butcher, baker and candlestick maker. :) With your mobile phone now being your gateway to the internet on the go it is even more accessible and these people are embracing that. But I bet that there are a lot more that aren’t yet. Some companies still don’t even have a website and don’t appreciate the importance.
So now the be all and end all of the Internet (in some eyes) Google, are also acknowledging the importance of Social Media and will index your tweets and Facebook business pages – subject to Google’s unknown algorithms of course.
“A Facebook fan page is visible to the whole world; you don’t need to be a Facebook user or logged in to view it. Because of this it is also visible to search engines, giving you inbound links to your website improving your search engine optimisation.” (Spiderworking.com)
See the importance therefore?
At Whatswhat.ie we are completely embracing the Social Media community and will be doing more in the coming months. At the moment companies that advertise with us can add their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Blog addresses plus their YouTube video. These are all direct links and if you don’t know the importance of a direct link then please read here – Direct of Re-Direct Link?
What has been your experience with Social Media and any suggestions of using it correctly so Google will “Tweet your Tweets”?
